Photovoltaic Installed Capacity in Germany in the Second Quarter Increased by 94% Year-on-year

According to a research report recently released by the German Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur), Germany installed 3.3GW of photovoltaic systems in the second quarter of 2023, a substantial increase of 94% compared with the 1.7GW photovoltaic systems installed in the same period last year. And Germany is already leading the way in Europe's renewable energy transition.

Compared with the 3GW of PV systems installed in the first quarter of 2023, the installed capacity of photovoltaic systems installed in Germany in the second quarter increased by 10%.

Germany has so far installed a cumulative installed capacity of photovoltaic systems of 73.8GW. Germany installed 7.18GW of photovoltaic systems in 2022, an increase of 35.47% compared to 5.3GW in 2021.

Germany, once heavily reliant on gas imports, has found itself at the center of Europe's energy crisis following the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Yet Germany has seized this critical moment to move towards a more sustainable future.

As Germany continues to lead the PV market, the installed capacity of PV systems in the country is expected to grow significantly in the coming quarters.

Speaking at the 53rd World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in 2023, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz reiterated that despite setbacks, the transition to renewable energy is on track. This transformation was accelerated after the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
