According to the data of the Italian state-owned energy operator GSE, Italy added 1.611GW of photovoltaic installed capacity in the first three quarters of 2022, of which the installed capacity of ground power stations was 322MW, and the distributed installed capacity was about 1279MW. Installed PV capacity increased by 966MW, or 150%, from 646MW in 2021, adding 69,096 new systems, with most of the capacity coming from systems in the 3 kW to 20 kW range.
According to GSE, as of the end of September, the installed capacity of photovoltaic in Italy has nearly doubled the overall new additions in 2021. Furthermore, Italy is again a GW market in 2022 for the first time since 2013.
As of September 2022, the cumulative installed capacity of photovoltaic in Italy is 24.2GW, and the cumulative installed capacity of ground power plants and distributed power plants is 8.38GW and 15.83GW respectively. The industrial sector leads the total installed capacity with a contribution of 12.35GW (51%), followed by 4.809GW of tertiary power plants with 20%, 4.417GW of residential (18%) and 2.63GW of agricultural projects (11%).
In addition, Italy is currently trying to support the country's growing solar industry through financial support and auctions.
