Nigerian microgrid market in 2020

The Nigerian Microgrid report conducted an independent assessment of the Nigerian microgrid market, in collaboration with the Rural Electrification Authority (REA), the World Bank (Energy Group) and RMI.

"Today, there is a $9.2 billion annual market opportunity for microgrids, solar home systems and solar panel machines , which will save Nigeria $4.4 billion annually," the report said.

The report also noted that Nigeria is providing an enabling environment for off-grid electricity market growth, including protection of power developers through the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) small grid regulations.

Meanwhile, REA's mission was to develop Nigeria's off-grid electricity market.As part of the Power Sector Recovery Plan (PSRP), the agency developed an off-grid electrification strategy, the primary goal of which is to increase power supply in rural areas and underserved clusters.
